Amazon UK recalls Kindle Fire chargers over health and safety risk

Amazon UK is in the midst of a health and safety debacle as the retailer has been forced to issue a recall on chargers for its Fire 7-inch or Kids Edition 7-inch tablets.

It would be ironic if this was because of a potential fire risk, but it’s actually because of an electric shock risk, which is no less concerning.

The chargers could be dangerous if the adapter assembly starts to detach – an issue that can occur when the component is pulled from the wall.

Amazon has assured customers that this only happens “in rare cases” but recommends that anyone who purchased one of the affected tablets in the UK and Ireland from September 2015 turns the charger in.

The retailer is offering to exchange faulty chargers for free or put an extra £12 into the customer’s Amazon account so that they can purchase a third-party replacement.

Amazon suggests using an alternative charger to power up your Fire 7-inch or Kids Edition 7-inch until a replacement is available.
